The first stop in our 2022 Lagers of the World series is Iceland!
We caught up with Gudjon Gudmundsson and Justin Dearborn at Einstök Ölgerð in Akureyri, Iceland to talk about beer and brewing in the Icelandic tradition. Iceland has had a unique history with beer. Like many countries they imposed a prohibition in 1915. Wine was lifted in 1922 and spirits were allowed in 1935. But somehow, beer was prohibited until 1989! What was arguably a very sad 74 years in Icelandic history leads to a wildly unique and young industry.
