Ellie McDonald, Beer Hall extraordinaire and breast cancer survivor, recently launched Tend to You, a non-profit that creates care packages for cancer patients. To help support Tend To You, drink Red Tape! $2 from each 6-pack of Red Tape sold from the brewery will be donated to Ellie’s charity. Read more from Ellie about Tend To You:
“I started working at the Jack’s Abby beer hall one month after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I received my diagnosis out of nowhere at the age of 24 while living and studying in Denver, Colorado. I quickly moved back to Massachusetts to receive treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
I was overwhelmed by the amount of appointments I had to prepare for as well as the side effects of treatment that were keeping me from living my life. It was exhausting trying to mentally sort through any of it. I just wanted to get out of my head, relax my body, and make it through treatment.
The support I received was amazing, especially the suggestions and gifts that helped me to manage my chemotherapy side effects. I began to think about other patients in the country and how we all could benefit from some sort of wellness package. While chatting with a nurse in one of my last chemotherapy sessions, the idea for Tend to You was born.
I want to highlight local businesses while also encouraging cancer patients to tend to themselves. It is my way of showing light to others who find themselves in a similar position that I was in.
In partnership with local New England farmers and artisans, Tend to You strives to bring patrons the very best. Tend to You will source goods, assemble a care package, and then ship it to the patient at no cost to them. In addition, Tend to You also has created a wellness committee that will provide our community with fun, health-conscious events such as pasta making classes and guided yoga flows.
Tend to You hopes to help cancer patients navigate the difficulties of their journey while also championing local small-business and farming initiatives. We pray that these gifts and events lift spirits, help patrons to be mindful, and provide a community of support for each and every person involved. By striving for excellence and putting caring into practice, we are confident that we can make a difference-not only for cancer patients, but for our local community as well.
Thank you so much for supporting our efforts and helping to support those who need it during these ridiculous, unpredictable times!”
