At Jack’s Abby, we care deeply for our community and the environment. It has come to our attention recently that there is some misinformation surrounding our packaging and we would like to keep you all informed so that you may make conscious decisions when purchasing our product. It is no secret that the beverage industry has been scrutinized for its use of plastic rings, and at Jack’s Abby we ourselves use plastic rings. Fortunately, the technology for these rings has come a long way in the past few years! The rings we use are made of #4 recyclable plastic. You will notice the “4” with the triangular arrows symbol on the rings themselves, so please recycle them. They are also UV degradable, and within a few weeks of exposure to sunlight they become brittle and fall apart. Pretty cool!
Most importantly, the biggest environmental advantage isn’t necessarily obvious. The size and weight of any packaging material significantly affects the amount of energy required to move and transport these items. Our rings use the least amount of packaging material compared to any alternative and therefore we use significantly less fuel in transport to the brewery and then again to you.
Here is a link to some websites explaining all of these points in full detail: http://www.hicone.com/index.php?id=39&L=0, http://www.ringleader.com/
We hope this helps you make a more informed decision when making future beverage purchases.
